Childhood Wartime Memories
Adopted Aircrew
By John Wilby
I was born in Rochford General Hospital in January 1939. We lived in Ashingdon Road. I have memories of adopted aircrew and of sing songs with them around the family piano. Of the sounds of anti-aircraft fire and watching dog-fights from the bedroom window. I later recall the use of in an air raid shelter across the road from Rochford Primary School and an Anderson shelter at home.
