Broken Links
There are some broken links or bad links on the site that you may come across:
- links that seem to do nothing at all and just leave you waiting
- links that merely take you back to the Home page
- links that take you to an error page
As far as we can we will try to deal with these by repairing them or leaving a message beside them on the site.
If you happen to come across any on one of our pages then it would be very helpful if you could alert us by posting a simple comment at the bottom of the page in question.
Thanks, Bob Stephen.
Update situation re Old-Maps
It would appear that old-maps will shortly be putting a partial remedy onto their site to handle the various broken links of theirs on our site. This email was received on 12th April to which we have sent a positive response.
"We have never officially supported direct linking to these URLs. They were
only ever for internal use and as such are prone to breaking.
Having said that, we can set up a redirect to allow hyperlinks to open up
the old-maps map page with the selected map highlighted at the given
location.
This should allow the following page (and others like it) to still function:
http://www.rochforddistricthistory.org.uk/page_id__34.aspx
It will no longer be a static map image, however. It will be the fully
interactive map that opens."
"We have quite a few broken links on our website to maps on your site in the "old" format, eg:
https://www.old-maps.co.uk/maptiles/m101204_586174_192258.png
Would if be possible for your webmaster to direct such "broken" queries to your main page or to some page that does something. At the moment our users are just left hanging"
