Here are a few photos of the Topsfield family. If there is access to the school registers from 1860 onwards the Topsfield name would be on there and are relatives to my mother in law. Her father was William John Topsfield. He served in the Essex Regiment and Royal Engineers.

Hope this is of interest to somebody.

PS: My wife’s mother’s family dates back to 1788 in Rochford. When she died several years ago we found a large amount of photos and other pieces. My wife’s great grandfather was W.S.Topsfield and a member of the St Andrews lodge of the R.A.O.B (the Buffaloes).

If you click on one of the 7 photos opposite it will enlarge in a separate window. If you then click anywhere inside the enlarged photograph you will be taken to the next one. To quit just click the "X" in the bottom right corner of an enlargement  ... Bob Stephen (RDCA admin)

Hi, its a long time since I looked at this page.

Brian Pettitt, an Arthur Topsfield was my wife's great uncle and I believe was in the rifles during the war.

Claire Pounds, I believe Matilda Winser was actually "Windsor" spelling at that time.

Pat Leon, I do know there was a link with the Topsfields in Pagelsham as I think one of them was a mariner of some sort.

I have not worked out how to contact you all direct so I hope this may help.

(RDCA-Admin. Les we don't as a rule publish people's emails on the site, except for the general site address which you will find at Contact Us. What I'll now do is drop these people an email).

I am descended from Topsfields who lived in Paglesham around 1800s and later in Burnham-on-Crouch. Has anyone managed to link this branch to the Rochford branch earlier on. I have a photo of Eliza Ann Topsfield, born in Burnham in 1858 of William Charles and Elizabeth Mary Topsfield (they were both Topsfields and married in St Botolphs, London). I have traced their parents but it is tricky earlier back and I wondered about the relationship say 1750s?

Hi. I am directly descended from Matilda Winser Topsfield born 1855. She married William Playle. I have some photos of her too. I have never seen these photos before. Please get in touch if you would like. Claire

As many of you know I have been researching the history of Rankin's Cricket Club and Arthur Topsfield figures from 1923 until 1936.  This was a turbulent time for the club but Arthur appears to have stuck with them.  I looked him up and he was born 1895 and in the 1911 census was a Grocer's errand boy living in East Street Rochford.  If there is a photo of him in the family archives I would love to have a copy for our records.
